Therapy for Relationship Issues in Footscray| Calm Centre Therapy

Relationships can bring comfort, connection, and belonging.

They can also bring up old patterns, fear, confusion, and hurt.

You might find yourself having the same conflict again and again. You might notice yourself shut down, people-please, over-explain, withdraw, or feel anxious when things feel tense. Sometimes relationship stress shows up not as one big crisis, but as a quiet sense that something is sitting way below the surface in how you relate to others

At Calm Centre Therapy in Footscray , I support adults who want to better understand their relationship patterns, emotional responses, and needs in connection with others.

Sessions are available in-person in Footscray, Melbourne, and via telehealth across Australia. You're welcome to get in touch to ask any questions you might have or to see whether working together in therapy might feel like a supportive next step for you.

When Relationships feel hard

Relationship stress can show up in many different ways.

You might notice:

  • feeling anxious about rejection, distance, or conflict

  • finding it hard to express what you need

  • people-pleasing, over-apologising, or losing yourself in relationships

  • withdrawing or shutting down when emotions feel intense

  • feeling “too much” or not enough

  • repeating familiar patterns with partners, friends, family, or colleagues

  • struggling with trust, closeness, boundaries, or communication

  • feeling caught between family expectations, culture, identity, and your own needs

For LGBTQIA+, bicultural, migrant, and identity-exploring clients, relationships can also carry extra layers. You may be navigating belonging, family pressures, cultural expectations, past rejection, or the exhaustion of needing to explain yourself in different spaces.

Therapy can offer a steady place to understand these experiences without blame or judgement. If you'd like to explore working together in therapy, you are welcome to get in touch with me directly by using the contact button below

How therapy can help with relationship stress

Therapy is a confidential and non-judgmental space where we can slow things down, notice any relationship patterns and build understanding of what might sit beneath these. Together in therapy sessions we might explore:

  • how you respond to closeness, conflict, distance, or uncertainty

  • where people-pleasing, avoidance, or self-protection may have come from

  • how past experiences shape what feels safe or unsafe now

  • what your body and emotions are communicating in relational moments

  • how identity, culture, family, and belonging influence your relationships

  • what boundaries, repair, and self-trust might look like for you

Relationship stress is rarely just about something as simple as communication skills. For most of us, relationship patterns are shaped by earlier experiences of belonging, exclusion, shame, family and social roles or cultural adaptation. At Calm Centre Therapy, my approach is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming and collaborative. By building insight into how your culture and experiences have shaped the way that you relate to yourself and others we'll work towards a clearer sense of what you need in connection yourself and with those who matter most to you.
