Gender-Affirming Therapy in Footscray | Calm Centre Therapy
Gender is deeply personal. For some people, their gender identity feels very clear. For others, it can unfold slowly over time, shift or become something that needs a bit of space to be understood more fully.
Therapy is a confidential space to explore your identity, your relationship with yourself and others, your experiences, and your future without pressure to explain or justify yourself.
You might be here because you are:
questioning your gender or wanting space to explore your gender identity
navigating a particular aspect of being trans, non-binary, gender diverse, agender, genderfluid
seeking support around whether or how to communicate your gender identity to loved ones or to work
exploring social, legal or medical transition
feeling anxious, overwhelmed or isolated
working through shame, self-doubt or internalised transphobia
seeking support with family, culture, community or relationships
grieving the time, safety or recognition you may not have found earlier in life
wanting to feel more connected to your body, choices and sense of self
looking for a queer and gender affirming therapist in Footscray, Melbourne or online
For some people, gender affirming therapy might include support around navigating transitioning. For others, it might be more about navigating relationships, work, grief, belonging, trauma, or feeling safe enough to be seen. Gender affirming therapy is counselling that respects and supports your gender identity, expression and autonomy.

Support around Gender, Relationships and Belonging
Gender identity does not exist in isolation. It can affect the way you relate partners, family, friends, culture, community and the wider world.
You might be navigating relationship changes, family or cultural expectations, or the exhaustion of having to educate others about who you are. You might also be trying to work out what belonging looks like when parts of your identity have not always been fully seen or welcomed.
Therapy can help you process these experiences while staying connected to your own needs, boundaries and hopes.
Support around Transitioning
There is no single way to identify as trans or gender diverse and transitioning does not always feel like a necessity when you are navigating gender. But for some people, transitioning medically or socially is an important part of feeling more aligned, embodied or visible.
Therapy can support you to reflect on what transitioning might mean for you, including social, emotional, relational, cultural, legal or medical aspects. This might include name and pronoun changes, coming out, conversations with family or partners, workplace concerns, navigating medical appointments, or the emotional complexity that can come with being seen differently by others.
The focus is not on whether your gender identity is “valid enough”. The focus is on your overall wellbeing, safety, self-understanding and autonomy.
At Calm Centre Therapy, my approach is collaborative, relational and trauma-informed. This means we will move at a pace that feels sustainable, pay attention to safety and choice, and make room for the things that matter most to you.
